This week the Lithuanian President and Seimas are scheduled to choose a governing coalition which includes a political party headed by an avowed rabid antisemite, Remigijus Žemaitaitis, who claims that Jews killed Lithuanians, among other pearls of wisdom. I am attaching here a link to a little known documentary compiled less than 10 years ago about the Jewish community of Malat (Molėtai) and it's destruction in the Holocaust. The film includes testimonies in English, Lithuanian, Russian and Hebrew, with English subtitles. I challenge all my friends, Lithuanian and Jew alike, to watch this film in one sitting without breaking down. I feel the conversation about the ethical implications of this government will be much more authentic after acknowledging the experiences described in the film.
