We at the Society for Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Heritage in Lithuania, congratulate the Lithuanian Social Democrat Party for their win of 52 out of 141 Seimas seats in yesterday's elections, leaving them the largest party almost double the next in line. We also congratulate their natural allies, the 'Democrats for Lithuania' party, for their 14 seats, together having an almost majority of 66 seats. We are also pleased that the rabidly antisemitic Zemaitaitis won only 20 seats, almost surely relegating his party to a position of no political power. We also wish a Mazal Tov to our dear friend Emanuel Zingeris for once again getting elected (this time against the odds). We are hoping that a stable coalition will be formed. Knowing some key players personally, we are confident that the new government will positively address the issue of Jewish heritage in Lithuania, both partnering with us to promote it for the tiny remnant of the glorious Jewish community that once thrived in Lita, and also partnering with us to promote the preservation of the Jewish holy and heritage sites in Lithuania, to realize the rich heritage benefits and growth potential of these sites.
